Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) member and actress Mimi Chakraborty revealed on Wednesday that she has been receiving rape threats on social media after sharing protest posts related to the Kolkata rape case.According to Indian media reports, Mimi Chakraborty took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her concern, questioning whether they were truly asking for justice for women in a society where issuing rape threats has been normalized by vicious men.
In her post, Chakraborty explained that after voicing her outrage over the horrific incident involving a female doctor in Kolkata, she began receiving threats of rape and obscene messages in response to her protest posts.She tagged the Kolkata Police’s Cyber Cell Department, questioning, “What upbringing and education allow this?”Indian media also reported that Chakraborty had actively participated in protests against the Kolkata rape case on August 14 and has consistently demanded justice for the female doctor on social media.
At Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, a 31-year-old physician was discovered dead in a pool of blood on August 9 in the Indian state of West Bengal. After working almost 20 hours out of a 36-hour shift, the doctor rested in the seminar hall, according to college personnel.
Her semi-naked body, however, was found in the seminar hall the following day. She had been viciously raped by several males, according to the post-mortem report, and then she had been strangled to death.In relation to the rape case, the Kolkata police detained a police officer and held him accountable for the act. The officer’s job was to help other cops and their families get into hospitals and receive medical attention.
