Pakistan’s passion for tea remains unwavering, even as temperatures soar across the country.
The import bill for tea in Pakistan has risen significantly, with the country spending Rs 83.88 billion on tea in the fiscal year 2021-22. This represents an increase of Rs 13 billion compared to the previous fiscal year 2020-21, when Rs 70.82 billion was spent on tea imports. Despite some regions experiencing temperatures as high as 50°C, Pakistanis continue to enjoy their daily tea ritual.
In addition to tea, Pakistan’s imports in the fiscal year 2021-22 included over 4.1 million bicycles, 4.4 million motorcycles, 4.3 million cars, 75,000 rickshaws, and medicines worth over Rs 6 trillion. Notably, the highest expenditure was on towels, clothing, and winter apparel.
